Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative focused on helping people reach their financial goals with affordable solutions and personal service. Its roots run deep in the Ukrainian American community, and that history continues to shape the way it serves members today.
Our history
The formation of Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union (SRFFCU) united two leading Ukrainian American credit unions, Self Reliance New York Federal Credit Union and Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union, both rooted in decades of service and a tradition of “people helping people.”
Originating from the Selfreliance Association of Ukrainian Americans, founded in 1947 to support immigrants, these institutions grew to serve over 31,000 members across Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The merger has combined more than $2 billion in assets and established regional centers in New York City and suburban Philadelphia, reflecting the ongoing trust and strength of the Ukrainian American community.
Community involvement
Community involvement has always been central to SRFFCU’s identity. As a financial cooperative rooted in the Ukrainian-American community, we are committed to serving our members, employees, and the broader communities we call home. For more than 75 years, SRFFCU has supported community development through employee volunteerism, financial contributions, and thoughtfully directed charitable giving to organizations that align with our mission. We take pride in investing in youth and future generations while continuing to support the legacy institutions that shape our heritage, reflecting our belief that making a meaningful impact goes beyond words—it’s demonstrated through action.
Leadership
SRFFCU’s leadership keeps the credit union focused on serving members effectively today and into the future. Its governance structure reflects the credit union model, with member oversight and a volunteer board guiding the organization.
